Sewer Scope · Pre-1970 Homes
Sewer line issues are completely hidden and not part of a regular home inspection. The only way to know the condition of the line is to run a camera through it.
Pre-1970 homes are the highest risk category for sewer line failure — often still on original infrastructure, well past its design life.
Issues we've found in Pre-1970 homes:
- Orangeburg pipe (a tar-based material) that collapses, blisters, or flakes apart.
- Cast iron that's scaled, rusted, or leaking under the slab.
- Bad connections between aging materials.
- No documentation of upgrades — even if work was done, there's no way to confirm it was done right without a scope.
Real example: We scoped a 1962 home with a full Orangeburg collapse at 19 feet and rusted cast iron under the house. Full repair and trenching: $28,000 — not including the driveway or tree removal.
